Betsson launches social sports app
MyFootball Connect is Betsson's first attempt at moving into "an interesting new segment" " developed in partnership with social sports studio OneUp Games.
Stockholm-listed egaming operator Betsson has announced the launch of MyFootball Connect, a mobile social sports app developed in partnership with OneUp Games.
MyFootball Connect is a bingo-style game which allows users to compete against friends during Premier League football matches, winning points when the football players complete a randomly-assigned action. The game also features achievements, leaderboards and a chat feature, and will stream games live, with other European leagues to be added in the coming months.
The app is currently only available via Apple’s App Store, but Android and Facebook variants are currently in development. However, the company has already said that it does not expect MyFootball to generate “any substantial revenues” this year.
Commenting on the launch, Betsson chief executive Magnus Silfverberg described the app as an experiment to find out more about the social casino sector: “This is an interesting new segment for our operational subsidiaries and we want to learn more about its potential.
“We are very excited about this new product and the partnership with One-up,” Silfverberg added.
While it is Betsson’s first social venture, MyFootball Connect represents the operator’s second Premier League-related project after the Gunners Gaming white-label deal with Arsenal football club, which launched last year.
Florida-based OneUp Games was founded by digital marketing specialist Daren Trousdell in January 2011, and operates apps based around American football, basketball and baseball with the in-play social gaming platform used to power MyFootball.
