Betsson hails LatAm potential on World Cup growth
CEO Pontus Lindwall says operator has laid the foundation for future sportsbook growth in the region
Betsson has hailed the potential for sports betting in Latin America after experiencing approximately 65% growth in the region during Q2.
Group CEO Pontus Lindwall said the majority of growth in the Rest of the World region within the operator’s Q2 report had stemmed from Latin America.
He went on to say the activity experienced in the region during the World Cup had laid the foundation for future growth.
“That part of the world is very much into soccer and the World Cup so of course it has been boosted but on the other hand this is an area where we have been building up our revenues over a long time and we have reached a certain level,” Lindwall said.
“Now we have the foundation there to capitalise on other events and general football that will start in the autumn again.”
In its Q2 results yesterday, Betsson reported the World Cup had contributed to 3.7% of overall revenues in Q2, which were up 14% to SEK 1346m (£115.9m).
Group sportsbook turnover was up 8% to SEK 6226m (£536.2m), which Lindwall attributed to a faster and more efficient sportsbook product.
He also hailed the effect of an improved in-play product in making margins less volatile. The operator saw margin of 6.3% during the quarter.
