Betit Group confirms Backman as CEO
Ex-Casumo and Betsson man Tomas Backman fights off external competition to land top job
Betit Group has selected interim CEO Tomas Backman (pictured) as its permanent boss after a wide-ranging recruitment process involving several external candidates, eGaming Review has learned.
Backman took up the interim role in June following the departure of Joakim Stockman and assumed the permanent chief exec role yesterday.
Prior to joining Betit Group as CEO of its sportsbook brand SuperLenny in June 2014, Backman had been chief player officer at Casumo and head of Nordicbet at Betsson Group.
Among his first challenges will be the launch of Betit’s third brand, Kaboo.com, which will launch in September and primarily target casino players in the Nordics and the UK.
The Betit Group board interviewed several external candidates for the role, including applicants with both gaming and non-gaming backgrounds.
Backman said he was “very pleased” to land the CEO role on a permanent basis.
“Betit is a very exciting company and the next year is going to be the most exciting yet,” Backman told eGR. “We are already one of the fastest growing companies in the industry but I think we are going to take the next leap during the next 12 months.”
Stockman’s departure from Betit in June was accompanied by the exit of COO Henric Andersson. The pair plan to launch a new online casino venture in the second half of 2016.
