Betfair launches mobile casino
Director of gaming Sam Hobcraft takes over duties of previous head of UK casino Adam Joseph.
Betfair has announced the launch of a full suite of mobile casino games for Apple and Android devices, with games including blackjack and roulette available on the operator’s ‘touch’ apps.
The launch follows the operator’s dedication to developing a mobile version of its core betting exchange offering, culminating in the launch of an iPad app in February.
Mobile revenues doubled year-on-year in the operator’s third-quarter results statement last month and now contribute 7% of overall revenues. Some 10% of the company’s exchange commissions come from bettors using smartphone devices, according to a statement from the operator, while Betfair has revealed that some £2bn has been bet with the operator on mobile devices this year.
Betfair has also revealed to eGaming Review that the duties previously carried out by head of UK casino Adam Joseph, who left for Bodog earlier this year, will now be the responsibility of director of gaming Sam Hobcraft.
Hobcraft described today’s launch as a “Very exciting development,” adding that “Following extensive work with our mobile teams, we are now able to offer a world class casino product to our Gaming customers and have been delighted with the early signs.”
Explaining the reasons for waiting so long between launching a mobile sportsbook and a mobile casino suite, head of mobile product Richard Hewitt said “Betfair is a diverse gaming group, and while we’ve been keen to roll out casino products on mobile for some time, we’ve held back from doing so until we were convinced that we had the product absolutely right.
“Despite its huge impact to date, there’s still so much more to come in terms of how mobile will contribute to our business, and the full launch of our mobile casino product will undoubtedly contribute to us reaching new heights in the coming months,” added Hewitt.
