Bet365 heads Oddschecker Top 10 for six months
Bet365 has retained the largest market share among online sportsbooks for the sixth month running, according to the Oddschecker Top 10.
Bet365 has retained the largest market share among online sportsbooks for the sixth month running, due to competitive pricing on horse racing and gaining a large share of football bets at the start of the season.
The Oddschecker Top 10 for August showed that Bet365 had 15.7% of the market share, up 0.1% from July. It was followed by Betfair, with 12.5% market share, then Ladbrokes on 10.2%.
Specifically for horseracing bets, Bet365 attained 17.8% market share, 5.6% ahead of closest rival Betfair.
Dave Watkins, commercial manager at Oddschecker, said: “Interestingly Bet365 seem to pick up more of the weekend traffic for horseracing, whereas Betfair are far closer in terms of market share during the week. This would suggest bet365 is succeeding in attracting the casual and recreational bettor.”
August saw the start of the UK domestic football season and Bet365 attained the largest market share for football bets at 13.7%, ahead of Betfair on 9.7% and Stan James with 8.6%.
Watkins said: “Betfair have always been strong on football and to see them in number two position is no surprise. Stan James’s popularity, aside from competitive pricing, has been due to their ongoing football promotions. It will be interesting to see if any other firms follow up with promotions of their own to try and attract the lucrative football punter.”
