Bet365 extends lead in Oddschecker rankings
Operator moves further clear of second-placed Betfair after strong January performance
Bet365 stretched its advantage at the top of Oddschecker’s monthly rankings in January after an increase in horseracing bet slips clicks moved it further ahead of long-term rival Betfair.
The Stoke-headquartered firm’s overall share of slip clicks increased from 18.52% in December to 19.12% last month, while Betfair posted a more modest increase from 17.89% to 17.98%.
Bet365’s improved numbers can be partly attributed to a strong horseracing performance – the top ranked sport for traffic on the price comparison website.
The operator increased its market share in the sport to 23.16%, compared to the 21.77% in December, with Betfair again in second place on 20.78%.
However, Betfair’s Exchange slip clicks continued to fall and in January stood at just 13.61%, down from 14.16% the previous month. Betfair’s Sportsbook increased month-on-month from 3.72% to 4.37%.
BetVictor remained in third place overall with a relatively flat 11.26% of bet slip clicks while Paddy Power (8.42%) and William Hill (7.92%) held fourth and fifth respectively.
Coral’s market share slipped from 6.49% to 5.97% but retained sixth spot despite Sky Bet posting a marginally better return of 5.87%, while eighth-placed Ladbrokes fell from 5.66% to 5.02%.
Stan James and Betfred remained in ninth and 10th place with 3.05% and 2.83% respectively.
The major sporting event of the month was the Australian Open tennis tournament with Betfair dominating the market on 21.15% of all slip clicks. Second place was a close battle between bet365 and Paddy Power who posted 10.97% and 10.24% respectively.
