Belgium widens self-exclusion scheme via itsme app partnership
Gaming Commission integrates new way to stop gambling via digital ID app to prevent dangers of addiction
The Belgian government has introduced a new initiative to prevent consumers from suffering from gambling addiction by launching a self-exclusion service via the itsme digital ID app.
While the Belgium Gaming Commission website already offers a request to exclude from gambling, it is now also possible to sign up via the itsme mobile app.
Itsme is a digital platform that allows users to log in, register and complete actions (such as online shopping) or signing documents anywhere in Belgium using digital ID.
Now users can also submit an application to the Belgian Gaming Commission via the app to get excluded from gambling.
In the neighbouring Netherlands, the Cruks self-exclusion register will come into force from 1 October, a tool where consumers have the option to request exclusion from all legal online and land-based casinos.
The initial ban will go into effect for a minimum period of six months.
