Almost 5% of UK iPhone owners use sportsbook apps
William Hill attracts highest percentage of UK iPhone users, research finds
More than 4% of UK iPhone owners are using sportsbook apps on their devices, according to research carried out by mobile data firm Onavo.
Data shared with UK newspaper The Guardian revealed that William Hill’s offering is the most popular with around 38% of those betting on sports doing so via its iOS app. Hills is closely followed by Paddy Power, used by 32% of iPhone users, while bet365 is ranked third with 24% of punters using its offering.
Both Hills and Paddys have seen mobile sportsbook become an increasingly important revenue stream, with Hills reporting amounts wagered on mobile passing £15m in its figures for the first quarter of 2013. Paddy Power has also made strong advances in the channel, posting 112% year-on-year growth in its mobile sportsbook revenues in May.
Despite having a smaller share of iPhone users than Hills or Paddys, Onavo’s research highlights Bet365’s mobile sportsbook app as the most engaging in the market. Punters use it on average around 5.6 days each month, compared to 4.1 days for Hills and 3.3 for Paddys.
Onavo CEO Guy Rosen told The Guardian there is “a lot of overlap”, with people using a range of apps rather than sticking to one.
“If you look at the users of Bet365, 17% of them are also using Betfred, and 10% are also using Paddy Power,” he said. “Or if you look at William Hill, 10% are also using Bet365. There’s a lot of interplay between these.”
