5G could see 48% of sports bettors increase in-stadium mobile wagers
The introduction of the ultra-fast mobile connection set to revolutionise in-stadium betting
The imminent arrival of 5G will substantially increase the amount of in-stadium and in-play mobile sports betting across the US, Germany and the UK.
According to a report published by US-based payment giant Paysafe, the introduction of the fifth generation of mobile networks with its improved connectivity and increased bandwidth is a key parameter for potential bettors making more in-stadium bets.
The report found that 61% of bettors studied across the US, UK and Germany want to make more wagers across mobile platforms, and the advent of 5G will help to facilitate this.
It was also noted that 51% of bettors are currently reluctant to place bets when at a sports event due to the intermittent quality of their 4G connection, while 49% said they felt the introduction of 5G is important to them.
Almost half of bettors (48%) said they would be more likely to place a bet through their mobile device if they were at a sporting venue with a 5G connection.
There is also the expectation from bettors that in-play and in-stadium betting will be a normality, with 41% of them expecting it to be available at most sporting events in the future via a 5G network.
Daniel Kornitzer, chief business development officer at Paysafe, said: “5G offers a lot of growth opportunities for operators of mobile betting platforms as it gives better searching, faster transactions and improved in-play functionality.
“For players, it’s all about being able to place bets safely, anytime and anywhere. We would urge sports betting operators to be ready for the increased traffic on their platforms – it’s a huge opportunity for them,” he added.
