Friday View: Why we're betting on html5
Damon Gura, executive director for games at Williams Interactive LLC, explains why the egaming vendor threw its weight behind HMTL5
Building our mobile platform using HTML5 technology was an easy choice. For starters, we wanted to ensure our new games wouldnât be subject to any storeâs rules that could delay the launch of our product, allowing us to better manage our launch roadmap to the benefit of our customers.
We deploy our mobile games through integration with our game server, and since those customers are building HTML5 mobile sites it seemed like a no-brainer to offer enhanced integration potential. We are able to serve more of our customers with a single product, since an HTML5 game can be included as part of a native app.
Most importantly, moving towards a premium HTML5 platform creates a lot of efficiencies in our game development process that are passed on to our casino partners.
The best solution
I believe HTML5 will win out for wagering applications in the end just due to the fact that you have the additional barrier of the various stores to worry about with native versus a much more efficient deployment via HTML5.
Right now you do not have access to the phone or tabletâs complete set of features as you do with native so that is one compelling reason to use native (as well as increased performance), however we believe we have achieved comparable performance to native applications in our HTML5 games.
And HTML5 has progressed quickly in the last year, with the technology being much more powerful than in its initial incarnation â who knows how progressed the features will be this time next year?
