Safari twice as popular as Android browser
Appleâs mobile browser maintains 55% market share as Androidâs equivalent software used by 23.5% of devices
Appleâs Safari is the worldâs most popular mobile internet browser and almost twice as popular as Androidâs equivalent, according to the latest data from NetMarketShare.
Data compiled by internet analytics firm NetMarketShare showed that of the internet browsers available on mobile devices, Safari was used by 55% of people with Androidâs browser used by just over 23%.
Googleâs Chrome was the third most popular with 10.8%, while Operaâs mobile browser Opera Mini was the fourth most popular with a 4.5% share of the market.
BlackBerryâs demise is evident in its failure to gain a market share above 1% and Microsoftâs Internet Explorer also flattered to deceive with a market share of 1.63%. Other browsers such as Symbian, ACCESS NetFront and Obigo hold a combined market share of 2.34%.
The data reinforces the notion that while Android devices may share a larger share of the overall smartphone market, their popularity in emerging markets with lower mobile-internet penetration rates limits the ability to effectively monetise users.
Market intelligence firm ABI Research has estimated that Android devices held a 77% share of the global smartphone market in Q4 2013, with Apple and Windows holding market shares of 18% and 4% respectively.
But for many egaming operators iOS is still the platform of first choice, with Android considered a secondary priority.
