Rank shows strong mobile growth
Nearly two-thirds of players on Mecca Bingo using mobile although fears of lower ARPU on the platform is flagged as a concern
Rank Group said mobile revenue rose by 87% in the six months ended 31 December 2014 with Mecca Bingo leading the charge onto the new platforms.
Mecca Bingo recorded 65% of its customer base using mobile during the six month period, with the channel generating 37% of total revenue.
But the firm did sound a note of concern in a presentation to analysts where it noted the potential for a falling yield on the smartphone and tablet platforms.
“[The] digital market remains extremely competitive with continuing shift to mobile which has lower ARPU,” the presentation said.
The operator will be hoping for further growth following the launch of its iPad app at the end of December, which director of mobile Simon Woolf said was designed specifically with tablet users in mind.
“Weâve developed it completely natively so the whole app infrastructure has been built from scratch including the bingo game itself,” Woolf said in an interview in the latest issue of eGR Mobile Intelligence.
We really thought about the experience of bingo here rather than just doing it as a commoditised product,” he added.
