PaddyPower to focus on tablets
New range of intelligent tablet games on the way from Paddy Power as it looks to the larger screen for mobile gaming growth
PaddyPower expects 2014 to be a “very exciting year” for its tablet apps as it prepares to launch a series of tablet-optimised gaming products using a new intelligent presentation layer. Speaking in an analyst call following its latest interim results, Peter O’Donovan, managing director of Paddy Power Online, said he expected there to be “significant opportunity” on mobile due to increased tablet uptake.
As a result the men behind Roller Casino are getting ready to launch a number of tablet-optimised gaming content across casino, games and bingo between now and the end of Q1 2014. O’Donovan said this was effectively repurposed content given a new lease of life for tablets to take full advantage of the screen size and gesture based interaction.
More interestingly he said Paddy Power will also be launching a new intelligent presentation layer that responds not only to devices but also to player segments so it is pushing different content to different users at different times. He added that all products would be available on mobile web and native app as the firm moves towards more HTML5 driven development.
Paddy Power has been a leader in mobile gaming during 2013 with its Roller Casino winning awards and generating significant revenues and the firm boasting 33% of gaming revenue coming through the mobile and tablet channel. And O’Donovan is confident there is more to come from the firm in mobile with tablet products leading the way.
“Our focus is on market leading mobile products,” O’Donovan said. And he added while Paddy Power was confident in its mobile pipeline he was less sure the smaller operators could say the same. The question is with mobile casino still in its infancy is it too early to be betting too heavily on any one product? Time will tell.
