Paddy Power launches on Google Play Store
Paddy Power launches Bet Calculator app on Google Play Store to try and boost downloads of RMG app
Paddy Power has made a move to bolster its Android revenues with the launch of a non-gambling Bet Calculator app on the Google Play Store.
The new app, which went live in January, allows users to calculate potential winnings on racing or football accumulators and includes a direct link to download the Paddy Power sports betting Android app.
Google’s continued ban on gambling apps in its app store remains a source of frustration to mobile gambling operators and Paddy’s new app is a creative workaround.
While the app is primarily a free-to-use tool for sports bettors it is clearly aimed at driving more downloads of the core real-money sports betting app.
Paddy’s own marketing makes it clear who the app is aimed at:
The download page on the Google Play Store states: “Easy access to our award winning Paddy Power sports betting app for android. Click on the Paddy Power Sports tab and download the app.”
Google has shown no signs of softening its stance against allowing gambling apps in the store, but with Android’s market share growing rapidly in the UK it is becoming an increasing problem.
And it will be interesting to see if solutions such as these can prove effective in driving more downloads in what remains a thorn in mobile gambling operators’ sides.
Paddy’s has also continued to launch new apps for the Apple platform with the stand-alone Rainbow Riches slot app making its debut at the end of 2013 alongside a new Vegas app and its innovative text-based Messenger app.
