Optimove iGaming Pulse Report: Average revenue per player leaps 28% as America’s Cup leads return of sport
In a monthly column, Optimove shares the latest insights from its iGaming Pulse Report looking at how casino and sports KPIs performed in March

The month of March was interesting for a couple of reasons. Firstly, last year around this time was when Covid hit. Secondly, the America’s Cup sporting event took place. Let’s dive deeper into the KPIs below to see how these events have affected both the online sporting and casino verticals.
Sports KPIs
Monthly deposits
The average number of monthly deposits for sports bettors increased by 8% MoM and by 17% YoY, now standing at 9.7 monthly deposits per player.
Monthly net gaming revenue per player
There has been an increase of 7% MoM in average revenue per active player during March and a massive increase of 28% YoY, now standing at €90 per player. This significant increase in relation to this time last year can be explained due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Since most of the world was forced into lockdowns, practically no sporting events took place, leaving online sports bettors empty-handed. The America’s Cup, one of the first international sailing events, took place this month between 6 and 21 March. Some of the teams that competed for the winning title were from the US, UK and New Zealand. By looking at data from the US, there has been a huge increase of 56% MoM and 74% YoY, now standing at €145 per player.
Retention rates
Retention rates for sports bettors have slightly increased by 2% MoM and by 10% YoY, now standing at 67%.
New retention rates
New retention rates have increased by 5% MoM and by 13% YoY, now standing at 45%.
Conversion rates
Conversion rates decreased by 4% MoM and increased by 10% YoY, now standing at 44%.
Number of activity days
This month, the number of activity days increased by 8% MoM and by 41% YoY, now standing at 8.6 activity days per player. As you can see below, there is a clear upward trend since March 2020 in the number of activity days which simply shows that as sports events began to resume, the number of activity days per player increased.
Casino KPIs
Average deposit amount
The average deposit amount for casino players decreased by 5% MoM and increased by 19% YoY, now standing at €38.
Monthly deposit per player
The average number of monthly deposits per player in March slightly increased by 6% MoM and by 16% YoY, now standing at 9.9 deposits per player.
Monthly revenue
The average net gaming revenue per active player in March increased by 7% MoM and by 31% YoY, now standing at €98.
Conversion rates
Conversion rates decreased by 7% MoM but increased by 3% YoY, now standing at 41%.
Retention rates
Retention rates decreased by 1% MoM but increased by 14% YoY, now standing at 67%.
New retention rates
New retention rates remained the same but increased by 25% YoY, now standing at 40%.
Mobile bettors ratio
This KPI is defined as the number of mobile bettors divided by the total number of bettors for this specific report. Looking at the data, the ratio increased by 6% MoM and by 2% YoY, now standing at 54%.
