Oddschecker Arc analysis: Bet365 loses market share to Paddy Power Betfair
Betfair Sportsbook more than doubles its market share year-on-year for Europe’s richest horse race
Bet365 saw its betting market share dominance eroded at last Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, with the Stoke-headquartered operator reaping around 16% of Oddschecker clicks on the race, compared to 27% last year.
Oddschecker’s Guy Harding attributed the downturn to 365’s place terms, with the firm paying three places on the race compared to four at many bookies and five at Sky Bet.
Bet365 was still the market leader at 16% click share, ahead of Sky Bet with just under 15%, as the Leeds-based operator also saw its market-share tick down from last year, likely due to a wide overround on the race.
Paddy Power and Betfair were among the biggest market-share share gainers on the race, with the Betfair Sportsbook more than doubling its share year-on-year. Both books offered relatively homogenous pricing, paying four places with average overrounds.
Hills, Ladbrokes and Coral all gained share year-on-year, with the ‘big seven’ bookies losing three percentage points share overall, thanks largely to the losses at 365 and Sky.
Oddschecker said the Arc generated around two thirds of the volume of the Epsom Derby.
