How the business climate of the online gambling sector is shaping up
In the second edition of a new series, the Online Gambling Quarterly surveys a group of egaming experts about wider business conditions
Current business climate – summer 2017
After all-time highs in winter 2016-2017, future business climate projections took a downturn in the recent summer survey of the Online Gambling Quarterly.
The majority (57%) of the surveyed experts and market insiders assess the current business climate of the online gambling industry as “satisfactory” or “poor”. Less than half (43%) of the experts consider the current climate as “good”.
In the two previous surveys the Online Gambling Quarterly conducted this past winter (December 2016 and February 2017) the report saw the largest share of “good” estimates since this analysis was launched back in May 2013. Now, in summer 2017, the proportion of survey participants assessing the business climate outlook as “good” decreased to 43%, essentialy the same level as before the “business climate hype” of this past winter.
Future business climate
Regarding the future (in the next 12 months), 51% of the experts surveyed by the Online Gambling Quarterly believe that the industry climate will be “good”, an increase compared to the current “good”-share of 43% – see the graph.
Compared to the analysis done in winter, the current summer survey saw a decreasing number of experts assessing the future business climate as “good”. Meanwhile, the share of pessimists (voting for “poor”) remained more or less constant, and thus the overall outlook for the business climate for the next 12 months declined for the second time after several consecutive quarters of steady improvement.
