Lee Jones named PokerStars head of poker comms
Former head of home games will report to head of corporate communications Eric Hollreiser.
PokerStars has appointed former head of home games Lee Jones to the newly created role of head of poker communications.
Jones, who was poker room manager for the operator from 2003-07 and also had a spell as president of Stars’ live poker series the European Poker Tour, rejoined the company in 2011 after spells with various egaming companies including Cake Poker.
He will report to head of corporate communications Eric Hollreiser, who described Jones as “A long-time poker evangelist [with] few people in the industry who can match his passion, knowledge and experience.
“In this role, Lee will focus full-time on using his knowledge and experience to engage audiences in forums, media, events, blogs and internally, infusing in all of us his passion and love for the game,” Hollreiser continued.
Jones’ appointment is the second made by the operator this month, after former senior security manager Michael Josem was named head of public relations.
This followed the arrival of Rafi Ashkenazi in January, with the former Playtech COO holding a similar role across the PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker brands.
Jones said of his new role: “I love poker, and I love being part of the broader poker community. This new role will allow me to serve as the community’s representative to PokerStars, as well as PokerStars’ representative to the poker community.”
His arrival comes as PokerStars prepares to open its poker room at London’s Hippodrome Casino (pictured) with a £250 buy-in event and regular cash games.
