Oddschecker: Top two lose ground to Paddys and Hills
Betfair retains top spot but loses market share as horse racing and golf helps fill football void in July
Betfair and Bet365 retained their positions at the top of July’s Oddschecker Top 10 despite losing market share, as football’s absence was felt throughout the sports betting sector.
Betfair lost 3.6% of its market share, but still captured 17.5% of the total market to hold off Bet365 which saw its market share drop from 17.6% to 16.7%.
Both Paddy Power and William Hill recorded increases to their market share in July which saw the Irish operator rising above BetVictor to third, however Hills was unable to improve on its fifth-placed ranking.
Horse racing was popular with punters as the domestic football season continued its break, however, Betfair relinquished more than 3% of the horse racing market share, predominately to Paddys and Hills.
Golf also proved to be a popular draw, with the previous record for monthly bet slips broken by more than 40,000 as the 2013 Open Championship took place at Muirfield Golf Links.
Paddy Power, offering 10 places to new customers, benefitted most from the surge, taking 11.73% of July’s golf betting market.
