Unibet hires former Swedish regulator COO
Former Swedish Gambling Authority COO Peter Alling joins operator as head of public affairs for Nordic markets
Swedish-listed operator Unibet has appointed Former Swedish Gambling Authority COO Peter Alling to the newly created role of head of public affairs for its Nordic market operations.
Alling joins the company from the Swedish Gambling Authority, where he most recently held the role of chief operating officer, and was previously secretary of the latest Swedish Inquiry on Gambling in 2008.
Commenting on the appointment, Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström said Alling would be an important addition to the company as it prepares for further European regulatory discussions.
“We are very pleased to have Peter with us. He brings significant expertise in the gambling market and its regulations,” he said.
Tjärnström added that Alling would also provide useful knowledge and understanding of community stakeholders’ needs in response to the changing regulatory landscape in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
“I look forward to working with Unibet. It is a gaming operator who thinks long-term customer-oriented and willing to contribute actively in all areas for a well-functioning market games,” said Alling.
According to Unibet’s financial results for the three months ended 30 June, the Nordic countries continue to be the biggest market by gross winning revenues (GWR) for the operator, accounting for 53% of its regional GWR.
The latest hire follows the appointment of Robert Smith to the newly created role of head of new channels, as first reported by eGaming Review yesterday. Unibet also saw the departure of its head of poker Steve Cutler last month, who has since been replaced by Martin Stalros.
