Betfair ends brief bet365 Oddschecker reign
Strong international football showing gives Betfair July edge in long-running Oddschecker battle
Betfair returned to the summit of Oddschecker’s monthly bet-slip-click league table for July as its strong World Cup showing brought bet365’s brief table-topping stint to an end.
Bet365 had relegated Betfair into second place in June, but a strong July saw Betfair take a 17.76% share of all slip clicks, up on the 16.39% recorded during the previous month.
And that total was enough to see it reclaim first place despite bet365 also having increased its share of the market from 16.99% to 17.34%, which saw the pair extend their lead on a chasing pack headed-up by BetVictor on 9.65%.
Of the three main battlegrounds, Betfair took the honours for international football (14.87%) and horse racing (19.80%) while bet365 outperformed the rest for golf (11.35%) in a month that included the British Open.
BetVictor (14.35%) pipped bet365 (14.31%) to second place for international football while an aggressive British Open bonus promotion helped Coral (8.66%) take third place in golf behind Betfair (11.16%).
The rest of the top 10 positions remain unchanged with William Hill (7.45%) the only improver as it halved the gap between itself and fourth placed Paddy Power (8.45%).
According to BetVictor online spokesperson Charlie McCann, the operator’s competitive World Cup performance was testament to its football odds – BetVictor was recently awarded the honour of offering the best football match odds most often by Oddschecker for the third year running.
“The Oddschecker punter, almost by definition, is a customer who is value orientated and with over 70% of our World Cup prices placed via mobile devices it is clear that our best price massage is resonating with the Oddschecker user old and new,” McCann said.
According to Oddschecker data, BetVictor’s 2013-14 match odds for games in Europe’s major leagues were better than the median price offered by its competition 71% of the time, more than any other bookmaker.
