Mybet to withdraw GB sportsbook
German operator confirms plans to go casino-only as it announces betting partnership with national newspaper Bild

German operator Mybet said today it will withdraw its sportsbook from the British market as well as revealing a deal to become German national newspaper Bild’s official betting partner for Bundesliga matches.
A spokesperson confirmed the move to eGaming Review this morning, citing the market to be too competitive with a large number of “well positioned operators” already active in the market and will instead focus on its casino operations in the country.
The also said company said it had no plans to apply for a sports betting licence in the future but confirmed it had applied for a casino licence.
Its application with the GB Gambling Commission remains pending, but earlier this week mybet added Pounds Sterling as a currency option for British-based UK customers having previously only offered Euros.
Meanwhile mybet yesterday revealed it will integrate betting boxes, match teasers and other modules onto Bild’s online and mobile Bundesliga coverage for the duration of the 2014-15 season.
Mybet will also benefit from a number of high-profile advertisements being placed in Sunday’s Bild am Sonntag edition of the newspaper.
“It gives our attractive bets and odds a much greater reach, and we are confident of substantially increasing our market shares in the German-speaking world,” Florian Güde, online marketing director at mybet, said.
Mybet holds a German online betting licence issued by the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of the Interior and earlier this month was one of 20 operators to receive a licence by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
