Bet365 wrestles back Oddschecker top spot from Betfair
Operator reclaims number one position in long-running battle with rival Betfair, while BetVictor holds onto lead in football
Bet365 has ended Betfair’s two-month stint at the top of the Oddschecker rakings after claiming almost 19% of all bet slip clicks on the price comparison website during October.
In the latest stage of a long-running two-horse race between the firms, bet365 accumulated an 18.73% market share during the month, an improvement on its September total of 17.59%.
Betfair’s share of slip clicks, meanwhile, reduced from 20.03% to 17.84% month-on-month – its lowest total since June’s 17.76% – despite its growing sportsbook product.
However, Betfair remained well ahead of third-placed BetVictor, although the Michael Tabor-owned operator managed to increase its share from 11.19% to 12.09% after yet another strong football performance.
BetVictor retained its number one position across all football markets with an 18.89% share of slip clicks, up on its September total 17.4%, followed by Betfair and bet365 on 17.4% and 12.96% respectively.
Further down the outright table, William Hill (7.87%) leapfrogged Paddy Power (7.44%) into fourth place while Coral (6.84%) moved ahead of Ladbrokes (6.21%) in the race for sixth.
The remaining three positions remained unchanged from the previous month with Sky Bet (5.64%), Stan James (3%) and Betfred (2.71%) occupying slots eight to 10.
According to Oddschecker, ‘specials’ markets proved to be popular in October, mainly due to betting opportunities on TV shows such as X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing, while by-election political betting also caught the public’s attention.
And it was Betfair who reigned supreme in these niche markets as it secured a 20.93% market share with Ladbrokes second on 14.5% and Paddy Power in third with 9.09%.
