Winamax launches mobile sports betting
Poker operator integrates sportsbook product into France-facing iOS app following successful desktop launch
French online poker operator Winamax has this week incorporated sports betting into its standalone iOS app, six months after launching its sportsbook via its desktop site.
The new version 3.2.0 of the operator’s app was unveiled on Tuesday complete with full sportsbook functionality within the previously poker-only mobile product, including pre-match and in-play betting.
The app is currently only available via the French Apple Store for both iPhone and iPad devices.
The operator first launched an online sports betting product in June on its France-facing poker site just one week before the start of the football World Cup in Brazil.
Pari-mutuel and fixed-odds betting is available on Winamax.fr along with an increasing number of sports such as football, tennis, basketball rugby, snooker and golf.
Winamax built the product in-house and revealed just weeks after the desktop launch that it planned to develop a mobile sports betting product after recording 50% of sports stakes through mobile or tablet devices.
The poker operator first revealed its intention to diversify into sports betting in April this year, and subsequently received a five-year sports betting licence from the French regulator in May.
It recently took the decision to terminate its operations in the UK online gambling market after deciding not to apply for a licence from the Gambling Commission of Great Britain.
