Genius Sports Group scores Argentine FA data deal
Data provider to become official partner of football’s governing body in South American nation
Genius Sports Group has secured an exclusive data and integrity partnership with the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
Genius will be granted access to collection and distribution rights for in-stadia data from football matches in the South American country.
The data giant will gain access to 13 Argentine competitions and more than 3,300 games a season, with the data obtained set to be distributed to sportsbook operators across the world.
The AFA will also be afforded access to Genius Sports’ bet monitoring system to protect against match-fixing and betting-related corruption.
Jack Davison, Genius Sports Group CCO, said: “Being selected by AFA as their exclusive in-stadia data and integrity partner is a pivotal moment for the entire Genius Sports Group.
“Argentinian soccer gains a fair and transparent return from betting on its competitions and a platform to expand its global reach. Meanwhile, our sportsbook partners will be provided with more premium content from some of the most competitive leagues in world soccer,” he added.
Claudio Tapia, AFA president, said: “For the AFA it was a fundamental priority to establish an official data and statistics system for our competitions to grow revenues and expand our international audience.
“It was equally important to retain a partner that could provide vital protection from any betting-related threats so that Argentinian soccer fans can enjoy games that are fair, transparent and unpredictable.
“Genius Sports’ experience as an official data and integrity partner to many of the world’s largest sports made them the ideal choice and they will be central to our global growth,” he added.
Last month, Genius Sports indicated its intention to go public after sealing a $1.5bn agreement with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) dMY Technology Group II.
