Mobile drives Interwetten turnover growth
Strong customer acquisition and new mobile app behind 10% growth in Q1 turnover
Interwetten has announced a 10% year-on-year rise in Q1 turnover after strong mobile growth helped boost sportsbook stakes by 15%.
The Malta-based operator said total turnover for the three months ended 31 March was “more than 12m” with mobile contributing 46% of the total following the release of new mobile products in 2014.
Mobile casino doubled year-on-year, and now accounts for a third of Interwetten’s total casino operation while mobile sports betting represents almost half its total sportsbook.
“After an extremely successful 2014, the upward trend has continued in the first quarter of 2015,” Werner Becher, spokesman of the board, said.
“I am particularly happy about the fact that we were able to boost the mobile share in sports betting to almost 50%, and, in case of casino and games, to double it to 33%” he added.
The firm also saw an improvement in customer acquisition and retention, with depositing customers up 54% and active customers rising 13% when compared to the same period in 2014.
The growth was attributed to the launch of a new native application and the recent implementation of cash-out functionality.
Interwetten said it remained hopeful of securing a nationwide sports betting licence in Germany, despite having missed out on one of the 20 licences handed out last year. It currently holds a permit from Schleswig-Holstein.
In February the firm announced it had re-entered the Greek online market, saying it was confident of its long-term prospects there despite uncertainty over the country’s regulatory environment.
