Galaxy S8 integrates new Samsung VR interface
Samsung rolls out newest mobile offerings with updated software and a new look
Samsung this week rolled out its Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones featuring Bixby, the company’s answer to Alexa and Siri.
Both models feature an infinity display and bezel-less design without any buttons, as well as an 8MP F1.7 autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 dual pixel rear camera.
The 10nm chip offers improved speed, while the Samsung knox platform provides security.
The new Bixby interface allows users to navigate through apps with voice recognition and vision and touch commands.
Currently it only functions alongside build-in apps like camera, contacts and messages, but future updates will include interaction with other Samsung and third-party apps.
Bixby does offer an “image recognition technology” allowing users to shop online, search for images and gain an insight into their surroundings.
The S8 and S8+ feature Samsung’s newest VR offering, powered by Oculus. The smartphones also connect to the Gear 360 to create 4K 360-degree videos and 15MP photos.
DJ Koh, president of its mobile communications business, said: “The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ usher in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world.”
In the UK, the Galaxy S8 is priced at £689 and the S8+ at £779.
