Mobile growth drives revenue uptick at 888
Operator says proprietary mobile products will set it apart from competitors in 2016 and beyond
A surge in mobile staking meant handheld devices provided almost half of 888âs B2C revenue in 2015, according to the firmâs full year financial results.
Total group revenues were up 2% to $462.1m (£324.1m) during the 12 months ended 31 December 2015, with mobile accounting for 47% of the total, up from 33% a year ago.
However, group EBITDA fell by 40%, a drop the operator attributed to the introduction of new gaming duties and unfavourable FX movements.
Despite the profit fallback, 888 CEO Itai Frieberger said 2015 had been a âvery successful yearâ for the company.
âThis strong performance reflects the continued execution of our focused growth strategy as well as the quality of our brands, best-in-class technology and CRM expertise and was achieved despite the significant external challenges that impacted the online gaming industry and our profitability,â Frieberger added.
Going forward, the company was equally optimistic about its prospects, thanks to the perceived strength of its proprietary mobile offering.
The group develops its mobile games and solutions in-house, a move which the company said enabled it to differentiate from competitors with âever richer and more engaging content for our customersâ.
âContinuous innovation is central to 888’s progress and our ‘mobile first’ approach to product development is reaping rewards,â the company said in a statement.
