Paddy Power to close Roller Casino app
Irish firm reveals it will be shuttering innovative mobile casino app as part of wider move to discontinue secondary brands
Paddy Power said this morning it will be discontinuing its award-winning Roller iOS casino app stating “inevitably, innovative ideas wonât all work”.
Roller was the first major app from an egaming operator designed specifically for touch screen devices and won a number of awards including eGaming Review Innovation of the Year in 2013.
But eGR Mobile Intelligence understands the firm struggled with acquisition through the mobile channel and it will focus on the more obvious cross-sell opportunities of its PP Vegas brand in the future.
The Irish firm made the announcement as part of its annual results released today, which showed strong growth in mobile gaming led by the PP Vegas mobile casino.
“Mobile net revenue increased by 58% to represent an industry-leading 40% of total online gaming in 2014 and in December, 45% of eGaming customers transacted via mobile devices,” the firm said in a statement.
“Product has been key to this strong performance and mobile product in particular where we have a leading position and we released over a dozen apps last year,” it added.
Overall mobile net revenue accounted for 55% of online revenue, with 77% of active sportsbook customers transacting via mobile during December.
Sportsbook remained the strongest performer on the mobile platform and the firm reported mobile sports betting turnover grew 38% to â¬1.6 billion for the year.
The mobile platform was responsible for 61% of sportsbook stakes in the last month of the year.
