Sky Bet to trial mobile live streaming
Operator signs with Simplestream for one month trial, starting with this seasonâs UK Football League play-offs
Sky Bet is to trial the live streaming of UK football matches on its mobile sports betting app for the first time, starting with tonightâs UK Football League play-offs.
The operator will live stream 15 fixtures throughout May to assess the popularity of live streams with its customers, and has signed a deal with TV services supplier Simplestream to provide the capability.
The deal will be reviewed once the Football League play-offs end later this month, including three play-off finals that will be played at Wembley Stadium over the bank holiday weekend starting 24 May.
âAs the official sponsor of the Football League and the play-offs, streaming all 15 games to Sky Bet customers is a really exciting initiative and we are really pleased with the Simplestream technology solution,â Conor Grant, director of products at Sky Bet, said.
Sky Bet already offer live streaming of Spanish La Liga football matches, however any deal to stream UK matches would be considered a huge advantage for the Sky Bet sportsbook app.
Apps from Coral, bet365 and William Hill have all had live streaming on selected events added to them in recent weeks, but Sky Betâs ability to leverage exclusive content from Sky Sports would be a major advantage.
