RAIG names Racing Post’s Cian Nugent as new chairman
Publisher’s racing MD to take over from former Remote Gambling Association chief Clive Hawkswood
Racing Post MD Cian Nugent has been appointed to succeed Clive Hawkswood as the chairman of affiliate trade body Responsible Affiliates in Gambling (RAIG).
Former Remote Gambling Association (RGA) chief Hawkswood has served as chair of the trade body since its inception in 2019, when it was created by founding members Racing Post, oddschecker Global Media and Better Collective.
Hawkswood told the board of his decision to step down in Autumn 2020, revealing he couldn’t devote enough time to do the role full justice due to other commitments.

He has previously urged affiliates to embrace regulatory changes as a result of the UK government’s ongoing review of the 2005 Gambling Act.
Nugent said: “I’m pleased to be able to represent our industry during the crucial next phase in the development of policy and regulation of the gambling sector.
“Our focus will be on education and lobbying and engaging constructively with the government and interested politicians.
“Affiliates play a key role in providing enjoyable and safe environments for consumers – facts which we want to see recognised in any new laws governing our industry,” he added.
Nugent joined Racing Post in January 2019 after five years as COO of exchange operator Matchbook.
