Coral captures magic of grassroots football in new TV ad
GVC-owned bookmaker compares enthusiastic amateurs to Premier League stars in “Sunday League” marketing campaign
Coral has unveiled a new TV marketing ad campaign to showcase the excitement of the Premier League season through the lens of Sunday league football.
Entitled “Sunday League”, the cinematic short is designed to celebrate the grassroots game as amateur footballers reflect all the tricks and traits of the best players in the Premier League.
The campaign focuses on the internal dialogue of one mobile bettor who flicks between Coral odds while pacing up and down a Hackney Marshes-style pitch on a busy day of non-league football.
Filmed from a variety of perspectives encompassing players, referees and pitch-side spectators, the voiceover relives stories of the current campaign as amateur ballers are compared to the top flight’s very best players, from Kevin De Bruyne to Virgil van Dijk.
Ladbrokes Coral brand marketing director Angela Porter said: “Football is a game loved and played passionately by so many across the country at all kinds of levels.
“This campaign continues to build on the direction we set for the brand earlier in the year and brings the passion we share with our customers, for football, to life.
“It captures the buzz and atmosphere of Sunday mornings on football fields. There are lots of ads that use football scenes and analogies, but this looks at really showcasing the passion of a real fan, whether he’s thinking about Premier League predictions or watching his local Sunday league team.
“We wanted to put viewers right in that moment with our brand,” she added.
The advert was created by creative agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) and the launch campaign was planned and bought by the7Stars.
It was directed by Nicolai Fuglsig of production company MJZ and filmed at Wormwood Scrubs in London in September of this year, with 140 cast and 80 crew members involved.
The campaign will launch on 31 October and the main ad will air during Liverpool’s Saturday evening clash with West Ham on Sky Sports.
