Imperus Technologies acquires Akamon for £17m
Akamon deal marks Imperus' second major acquisition in the social casino space this year
Imperus Technologies has expanded its presence in the social casino sector after agreeing a deal to acquire Spanish-language focused operator Akamon Entertainment for US$25.6m (£16.7m).
The deal, which is expected to close on 2 October, will see Imperus pay $22.3 in cash for the Barcelona-headquartered social games studio, in addition to a $1.1m (£720,000) deposit and $2.2m (£1.4m) in Imperus securities.
Akamon is the second major acquisition Imperus has made in the social casino space this year after buying Israel-based social games developer Diwip for $50m (£32.6m) in February.
“With Akamon, Imperus will benefit from an immediate and large footprint into South America, namely Brazil, in addition to Mexico, Spain, France and Italy, where Diwip currently has very little presence,” Imperus CEO, Daniel Kajouie, said.
“With virtually no overlap of customers between Diwip and Akamon, Imperus will have the opportunity to cross-sell its products to a much larger audience and leverage the infrastructure of both companies to accelerate growth almost immediately,” he added.
Akamon was founded in 2011 and is one of the largest social casino operators in Latin America and Southern Europe with its portfolio of free-to-play games attracting more than 450,000 daily users.
Following the completion of the deal the Akamon management team will remain in place including chief product officer Alex Cohen and CEO Vicenç MartÃ.
“To me, as CEO and co-founder of Akamon, the acquisition of Akamon by Imperus is a game changer [and the] opportunities in front of us are immense,” Martà said.
“The transition to mobile in Akamon’s core regions represents in itself a value multiplier of the already exceptional performance of Akamon in Southern Europe and Latin America,” Martà continued.
