Unibet offers customers free site blocking software
Operator teams up with Betfilter to give problem gamblers option to block all egaming sites
Unibet has partnered with anti-gambling software company Betfilter to offer problem gamblers free access to its gambling website blocking product.
The agreement will see Unibet pay the Betfilter licensing cost for customers known to have a gambling problem and will help address the issue of Unibet’s self-excluded gamblers satisfying their addiction through the use of other gambling operators.
Previously, problems gamblers would be advised to download Betfilter’s software, which blocks access to all gambling-related websites, but were required to pay approximately ?49 per year for the privilege.
“Unibet takes a proactive approach to identifying the signs of problem gambling, through our unique proprietary systems, but our customers also need support in refraining from gambling when needed,” Maris Bonello, integrity analytics manager of Unibet, said.
“That is why we are offering this software free to our customers,” Bonello continued.
As part of the deal, Unibet will also be offering free Betfilter licences to gambling addiction treatment centres, such as the UK’s Breakeven, to help people currently undergoing therapy.
“We are excited to work together with Unibet on trying to help online problem gamblers and also support treatment organisations with our blocking software,” Per Albertsen, a spokesperson for Betfilter, said.
“It is great to see a respected gaming operator like Unibet take a direct, responsible and serious approach towards helping online problem gamblers and their families,” he added.
