LEBOM has suspension lifted by UK Gambling Commission
Football prediction and betting operator Lebom has its suspension lifted after less than a week after finally integrating Gamstop
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has reversed its decision to suspend LEBOM’s licence after the firm integrated the self-exclusion system Gamstop.
The LEBOM platform now displays the Gamstop logo on its site following the integration. LEBOM had its licence suspended by the UKGC on 3 November after it failed to integrate with the system, which breached its licencing requirements.
At the time, the UKGC has confirmed that customers could still access their accounts and withdraw funds, adding that LEBOM should focus on its users and keep them in the loop with the progression of the investigation and the status of its suspension. It has been a requirement for all UK licence holders to integrate the system and refuse players who are registered to the system since March 2020.
At the time of the suspension, Kay Roberts, UKGC executive director of operations, said: “Gamstop provides a crucial service for people who feel they are suffering gambling harm; it is simply unacceptable for any online operator to fail to integrate with the scheme.”
Following the suspension, the regulator launched an investigation under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005.
LEBOM was launched in 2021 following a successful seed funding round which raised £400,000 and allowed friends to predict the results of Premier League fixtures against each other.
The app was created by digital media professional Guy Phillips, who developed the idea alongside two co-founders after operating office-based football sweepstakes.
The app has stakes and winnings capped, with a maximum stake limit of £20 and a £1,000 ceiling on winnings.
LEBOM’s model sees the firm take a 10% commission on all stakes.
