Lithuanian regulator issues new warning to unlicensed operators
Baltic state’s Gaming Control Authority provides update on illegal gambling activity as blacklist increases to more than 850 companies
Lithuania’s Gaming Control Authority has issued a warning to unlicensed gambling operators about remote gambling activity in breach of national regulations.
Companies that are not licensed for gambling activity in Lithuania but still offer their services to Lithuanian consumers are treated as illegal gambling providers.
After detecting illegal remote gambling activity, the regulator is authorised to take action against international firms as outlined under the Gaming Law of the Republic of Lithuania.
This action can include payment and DNS blocking, as well as the blacklisting of illegal companies.
The Lithuanian regulator has also released a list of illegal online gambling operators, which includes more than 850 gaming companies from across the world.
“The only possibility to be removed from the blacklist is to receive a licence and permit to organise remote gambling in Lithuania, as it is established in the gaming law,” said the regulator.
“The authority strongly recommends all online gambling operators review their activities related to remote gambling in the Republic of Lithuania and take action to ensure that such services are not available for Lithuanian customers.”
From 1 July, all forms of gambling advertising for both online and retail operators were outlawed in Lithuania.
