Gambling Commission narrows chairman search down to four candidates
UK regulator has reportedly tapped safer gambling campaigner Lord Chadlington as a long-term replacement for Bill Moyes
The Gambling Commission (UKGC) has settled on a four-person shortlist of replacements for chairman Bill Moyes, who was appointed in 2016, as first reported by The Times.
The shortlist includes Conservative peer and safer gambling campaigner Lord Chadlington, Responsible Gambling Strategy Board chair Anna van der Gaag and former Deloitte board member Marcus Boyle.
The identity of the fourth shortlisted person has not been revealed, although is understood to be an internal candidate.
Chadlington has previously served as head of an independent committee which decides how to allocate increased contributions to problem gambling treatment in the UK.
The committee was first convened in August 2019 by bet365, Flutter Entertainment, Entain, Sky Betting & Gaming and William Hill.
It followed a pledge by those operators to increase their voluntary contribution to problem gambling causes to 1% of gross gambling yield (GGY) over the next five years.
In support of his safer gambling efforts, Lord Chadlington founded a charity, Action against Gambling Harms (AAGH), which previously clashed with GambleAware over its role in serving as the main distribution source for RET funding.
Boyle currently serves as chairman of the British American Drama Academy following his retirement from Deloitte in 2020, while Van der Gaag serves as a visiting professor of ethics and regulation at Sussex University.
The successful candidate would replace Moyes, who confirmed his departure from the UK regulator in April following the high-profile departure of CEO Neil McArthur.
The chairman job pays an annual salary of £55,000.
