GamCare releases three-year strategy to crack down on gambling harm
Support provider aims to alleviate negative impacts of gambling in four-part plan of attack
GamCare has published a new three-year strategy as a fresh guide to ensure that fewer people are effected by the potential harms of gambling.
In its new 2021-24 approach, four major strategic ambitions have been identified.
First it will see that gambling harms are widely recognised and prevented, and to allow universal access to effective tools and support. It also intends to ensure that universal access to evidence-led and integrated treatment is granted, and finally that GamCare’s work is trusted, valued and effective.
In order to achieve these aims, GamCare has vowed to ensure that those who are impacted by gambling problems and their loved ones will receive access to support.
The support group will also be investing and expanding its services to make a positive influence on the lives of service users.
The increase in capacity will help GamCare navigate the regulatory landscape following the review of the 2005 Gambling Act, which is currently underway.
There are sure to be major changes to gambling regulation in reflection of the digital age, and how gambling products are now consumed 16 years after that legislation was designed.
The new strategy centres around the support group’s achievements over the past three years, where more than 100,000 people who were affected by gambling issues had access to helplines, chat rooms and treatment services.
GamCare has also stepped up its treatment and training services, dealing with gambling-related issues from 161 locations across Great Britain.
Overall, 23,732 professionals have been trained to deliver support to people who have been effected by gambling harm.
Anna Hemmings, GamCare CEO, said: “Over the next three years, we want to put gambling harms on the map and ensure more people know about them. We will expand our services to make lasting and positive changes to those harmed by gambling.”
GamCare will also be looking over the next three years to increase collaborations with stakeholders who share its vision of reducing damage to people’s lives caused by gambling.
It is currently part of the TalkBanStop initiative in partnership with Gamban and GAMSTOP.
