Gala becomes first bingo brand to join Senet Group
Bingo operator joins the likes of Paddy Power Betfair, Ladbrokes and William Hill at the UK self-regulatory body
Gala Bingo has joined its sports betting counterparts to become the first bingo brand member of the UK’s responsible gambling body, the Senet Group.
The self-regulatory group announced today that the brand’s retail business, Gala Leisure, and online arm, Gala Interactive, have followed the likes of Paddy Power Betfair, William Hill and Ladbrokes in joining the industry watchdog.
“Today marks an important milestone as more sectors from across the gambling industry recognise the importance of promoting responsible gambling standards,” Wanda Goldwag, chair of the Senet Group, said.
“We are delighted to welcome the first bingo brand to the Senet Group, and look forward to working with Gala Bingo as more businesses from across the industry make the commitment to submit to the independent oversight we provide,” she added.
The Senet Group’s member list to-date has consisted predominantly of sports betting-focused operators, with Sky Betting & Gaming the most recent brand to join earlier this year.
Gala Leisure’s CEO, Simon Wykes, said the addition of his company highlighted the important role responsible gambling has in the online bingo sector.
“Bingo is recognised as being a community-based activity at the softest edge of gaming,” Wykes said.
“As such, we place great importance on responsible gambling and can see the merits in working together as an industry rather than just as a sector within it,” he continued.
