Gamban wins Norsk Tipping gambling block contract
UK-based software provider earns four-year contract to bar access to unlicensed sites and protect at-risk players
Norsk Tipping has appointed UK start-up Gamban to provide it with gambling blocking software. The government-owned gambling operator has agreed a four-year contract with Gamban to provide consumers with gambling blocks where necessary across the country. Norsk Tipping is the sole legal provider of lotteries and online gaming in Norway and Gamban’s software will be offered as a supplement to Norway’s self-exclusion register. “Gamban’s software enables us to offer extended protection to customers wishing to block access to the black market,” said Norsk Tipping chief RG officer Bjørn Helge Hoffmann. After several years of decline, a recent survey from the University of Bergen showed a sharp increase in gambling problems in the Norwegian population during the past four years. Norsk Tipping CEO Åsne Havnelid said: “As the government’s own provider we have to turn every stone in order to reverse this development. “We are working on a series of extended responsible gambling measures within our jurisdiction. Gamban’s software will be a valuable supplement to our own systems,” she added. Gamban’s software can restrict access to unlicensed gambling sites targeting Norwegian consumers and can also block products aligned with gambling including skins betting and cryptocurrency. Gamban founder Jack Symons said: “The sheer volume of gambling sites means players are unable to exclude from each and every one. The most effective way to exclude from regulated – and unregulated – gambling sites is by blocking access at device-level. “One of the big changes we’ve made is in enabling our customers to install Gamban on multiple devices to ensure complete coverage,” he added.
