Danish gambling revenue slides 5% in Q3
Sports betting and online gaming figures falter as land-based casinos return to growth

Danish gambling revenue fell by 5% year-on-year to DKK1.53bn (£184m) during Q3 2020, according to the latest figures released by the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA). Online casino revenue for the period remained flat at DKK555m (£66.5m), while Danish sports betting revenue slumped by 11% to DKK558m (£66.8m). Danish slots revenue also experienced a drop-off, shrinking by 2% from DKK337m in 2019 to DKK334m (£40m) in the same period of 2020. Land-based casino revenue bucked this trend during Q3, rising by 6% to DKK87m (£10.4m) despite the presence of Covid-19 restrictions affecting Danish operators during the period.
During Q3, 45% of sports bets were struck via mobile, while 35% of bets were placed on desktop. Bets made in the retail environment accounted for just 18% of wagers in the quarter. In respect of online casino, 59% of transactions were done via mobile, with 40% taking place on desktop. A total of 24,231 individuals were registered with the DGA’s ROFUS self-exclusion scheme during the quarter, with 16,681 individuals self-excluding from gambling permanently. A further 7,550 individuals registered with the ROFUS service chose to self-exclude on a temporary basis from all Danish-licensed sites. The DGA’s ‘Stop Spillet’ helpline to support players with potential gambling addictions and troubling behaviours received 1091 calls during the period concerning self-exclusion.Related Articles
