Racing Post readies print return
Daily newspaper to resume publication from 1 June following Covid-19 closure
Racing Post has announced it will resume publication of its daily newspaper from 1 June, ending a three-month absence from print-based media as production was halted for the first time in its 34-year history due to coronavirus.
The resumption of its print edition coincides with the return of horseracing following its suspension in March, with the first behind-closed-doors UK meeting scheduled to take place at Newcastle on 1 June.
Irish horseracing will restart on 8 June at Naas and will be subject to strict government guidance on social distancing and hygiene requirements.
In addition, the Racing Post Weekender and the Racing and Football Outlook – both published weekly – will also make a return.
Racing Post editor Tom Kerr said it had been an “incredibly difficult” period for horseracing following the suspension of the sport due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The temporary halt in production of the newspaper in March was something no one could have predicted earlier in the year but I’m delighted to say we are coming back better than ever,” said Kerr.
As part of the return of its print title, Racing Post has said it will increase its editorial output online, which had been working in a streamlined capacity since the lockdown began.
Elsewhere, the British Horseracing Authority has published the first schedule of fixtures since March, with Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and the Ebor Festival set to take centre stage.
