Seven more CEOs attack Swedish deposit limit proposals
Betway, Casumo and ComeOn among latest firms to sign trade association letter protesting new regulatory restrictions
Seven gaming industry bosses have added their support to call for the Swedish government to withdraw proposed restrictions on deposit limits.
The CEOs of Betway, Casumo, ComeOn Group, Hero Gaming, Quickspin, Supranation and Videoslots have all added their signatures to a letter authored by operator trade body BOS last week.
BOS CEO Gustaf Hoffstedt welcomed the backing and confirmed operators which are not part of the trade body can still add their support.
The letter’s signatories currently represent almost 50% of the total Swedish online gambling market, according to Hoffstedt.
“The licensing system can no longer withstand attacks from the minister. On the contrary, in the name of consumer protection, he should be its chief defender,” said Hoffstedt.
“We’ve now opened the petition up to allow gaming company CEOs to sign, whether you are a member of the association or not. The only requirement is that you stand behind the message and that you have a Swedish gaming licence,” he added.
Industry executives from William Hill, LeoVegas, Kindred Group, Betsson and NetEnt signed the letter last week, criticising the Swedish government and proposals unveiled by Minister of State for Social Security Ardalan Shekarabi.
In the letter, the bosses claimed Shekarabi was helping to create a “Wild West 2.0” which could eventually lead to regulated operators leaving the Swedish market.
