Spanish GGR up 7.5% as market rebounds after slow Q2
Rises reported in all key verticals, with strong growth in competitions sector
Gross gaming revenues in the Spanish market rose by 7.5% year-on-year during Q3 to €191.68m (£168.2m), according to new figures from the DGOJ.
Revenues from the betting sector, which accounted for 52.57% of total GGR rose by 3.2% to €100.77m (£86.2m) when compared to the same period of 2018.
The period marked a return to growth for the sports betting sector, which has previously seen revenues fall by 1% during Q2.
Online casino revenues, which accounted for 34.7% of GGR, rose by 9.2% year-on-year during Q3 to €66.53m (£57m), failing to better the 22% year-on-year growth reported during the previous quarter.
Poker revenues, which accounted for 10.6% of total GGR, grew by 3.3% year-on-year during the third quarter of 2019, bettering the 1% growth reported during Q2.
The biggest rise during the quarter was in the so-called competitions (tournament) sector, where third quarter revenues grew by 128.23% year-on-year to €726,423.
Q3 marked the second consecutive period of revenue growth for the competitions sector, rising significantly on the 37% year-on-year growth reported in Q2.
In contrast, bingo sector revenues remained relatively flat during Q3, only increasing by just over 1% to €3.18m in the period.
Marketing spend on sponsorships jumped by just under 46% year-on-year during Q3 to €5.46m, while spending on bonus marketing rose by 8.2% during the same period to €31.7m.
Affiliate marketing spend increased by a quarter during Q3, rising to €9.6m, however overall advertising spend by online gambling firms dropped by just under 4% year-on-year to €35.4m during Q3.
The monthly average number of active accounts grew by just over 7% year-on-year to 869,500 accounts during Q3. Total monthly average new accounts rose by 9% year-on-year during Q3 to 253,678 accounts.
