GAMSTOP appoints new chair ahead of formal launch
Further board appointments and evaluation phase on the agenda for the national self-exclusion scheme
The organiser of GAMSTOP has named Jenny Watson as its new chair ahead of its formal launch later this year.
Watson will chair the National Online Self-Exclusion Scheme, having previously served as chair of the Electoral Commission other governmental organisations.
Watson said her first priority was to recruit additional independent board members and to put in place an initial evaluation of the scheme following the first 6 months of operation.
GAMSTOP went live in April with a number of operators, but has not yet been formally launched when membership of the scheme will become a licence condition for UK operators.
A GAMSTOP spokesperson said the scheme had been going “really well” despite reports of some technical difficulties, and there had been a “significant uptake” in the volume of consumers registering, with positive responses from both operators and consumers.
Fiona Palmer, CEO of GAMSTOP, welcomed the appointment of Watson, adding: “We are thrilled that Jenny has agreed to Chair this important self-exclusion scheme as we approach our launch.
“Our priority is to provide a trusted environment for gamblers wishing to self-exclude and a fully independent chair with Jenny’s extensive experience will help us to achieve this.”
