Malta Gaming Authority appoints new CEO
Regulator promotes chief regulatory officer Heathcliff Farrugia to step in for Joseph Cuschieri
The Malta Gaming Authority has appointed chief regulatory officer, Heathcliff Farrugia, as its new CEO, following the departure of Joseph Cuschieri last week.
Farrugia will step in for the outgoing chief executive from tomorrow, following the announcement last week that Cuschieri would be moving to Malta’s Financial Services Authority.
He has spent four years at the MGA having previously held the roles of COO and chief regulatory officer.

Heathcliff Farrugia is appointed MGA CEO
As regulatory chief Farrugia had been responsible for all the regulatory activities of the authority with a specific focus on regulatory supervision, authorisations, compliance and player support.
His career background includes a stint in the telecoms industry with roles at Vodaphone in Malta and Italy.
Since joining the gambling industry Farrugia has been a member of the Gaming Regulators European Forum and the International Association of Gaming Regulators and Advisors.
Farrugia takes over the top job at the MGA as the regulator oversees sweeping changes to the country’s Gambling Act, including updated regulations on AML and consumer protection.
