MGA begins search for new chairman as Joseph Cuschieri departs
Cuschieri to take up new role at the Malta Financial Services Authority later this month
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is on the hunt for a new executive chairman after the incumbent Joseph Cuschieri was appointed CEO of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) this morning.
Cuschieri, who joined the MGA back in 2013, will take up his new role at the MFSA on 24 April.
The MGA said in a statement this morning Cuschieri had overseen a “major transformation process“.
“This included a reform in all gaming legislation leading to the presentation of a new Gaming Bill which is currently being debated in the Maltese Parliament, “ the MGA said.
“In view of Mr Cuschieri’s departure, the MGA shall soon kick start the process to select and engage a new CEO.“
The forthcoming Gaming Bill aims to streamline the licensing system and tighten AML and anti-terrorist regulations, while boosting player protection standards.
The wider Malta egaming sector has seen significant growth under Cuschieri, with a 73.8% increase in the number of licences issued to remote gambling companies in H1 2017.
The regulator has also been at the forefront of developing blockchain regulation.
