Svenska Spel CEO resigns ahead of Swedish market liberalisation
Lennart Käll will leave in the summer as state operator begins search for successor to take on newly-regulated market
Svenska Spel CEO Lennart Käll has resigned from his post as the operator prepares for life in the newly-regulated Swedish gambling market.
Käll was appointed CEO in 2011 but will depart by the end of summer 2018 after seven years in charge.
The Swedish government recently submitted a draft gambling act to the European Commission in preparation for market liberalisation in January 2019.
Svenska Spel said it was prepared to face a reorganised gaming market under new conditions and that this was a good opportunity to transfer the responsibility of the brand to a new CEO.
“We are well prepared and look forward to competing on equal terms,” said Käll. “This is a good opportunity for a new CEO to handle and continue developing Svenska Spel.”
Svenska Spel chairman Erik Strand added: “We thank Lennart for the very good work he has done during his seven years as CEO.
“Svenska Spel is well prepared for the reorganization that will hopefully come into force at the turn of the year.
“The recruitment of Lennart’s successor has started and will be completed in the spring,” added Strand.
