UK gross gambling yield falls 11%, annual Gambling Commission figures show; Nyx and NetEnt unveil new slots.
UK online gross gambling yield fell 11% from £714m in 2009 to £634m in 2010, while the amount wagered rose approximately 18%, according to the UK Gambling Commission’s annual industry statistics report. The number of operators licensed by the Commission to carry our remote gambling activities rose from 366 in March 2009 to 432 to the same period this year.
GTECH has signed a new long-term lottery operator contract with the Texas lottery to provide it with a variety of products including a new online instant lottery system. The Lottomatica subsidiary announced that it expects to generate between US$750m and $825m during the nine-year negotiated contract. The seven-year contract will begin on 1 September 2011 and includes a two-year extension option.
Nyx Interactive has unveiled two new slot games, Great Atlantic Quest and Cherries Diner, the first in a long line of announcements, according to the company’s chief executive. David Flynn, CEO at NYX Interactive, said: “These are the first two games in a range of new games both in the mini-games range and full size casino to be released in the coming months.”
Following last year’s success of Gonzo´s Quest, Net Entertainment, has released a new slot game entitled Boom Brothers.
