eGaming Review responds to paywall reader questions
Following eGR's announcement that all its products will be subscription only from 28 September we have endeavoured to answer as many reader questions as possible.
At the beginning of this month eGaming Review announced that its monthly magazine, website and all its associated products will be paid for from the 28 September this year. Since then we have received a huge amount of feedback on this issue. Below is a selection of reader questions that we have endeavoured to answer and that, we hope, reflect the general sentiment of our loyal readership.

EGR: Yes you can. We will charge £50 less if you do not wish to receive the monthly print publication.
EGR: Subscription is £370 per user, however for each additional licence the price falls considerably the more licences are purchased. This is available on application. The snapshot itself will still be freely available featuring the latest news headlines, however, you will need to be a paid subscriber or on a free trial to read the stories in full.
Our subscription team can arrange this and group discounts for you. Please call either 020 7029 4025 or 020 7029 4096 or email a.maflin@pageantmedia.com or e.nettey@pageantmedia.com if you would like to discuss this further.
Q: I think someone here at my company already subscribes to the magazine. How do I check if this is the case and how do we increase the number of subscriptions? The same goes for your “paywall” “ what is your solution for company access?
EGR: We will check this for you. If you are an existing magazine subscriber your subscription will automatically be upgraded to include all of the online elements of the new subscription packages at no extra cost.
In terms of company access we are now selling individual licences to access the site and the other products we produce. Some of the biggest companies in egaming including operators, service providers, recruiters, lawyers, etc, have already contacted us asking for multiple licence deals to enable employees in offices around the world to access our products. See the first question above for prices.
Q: I have been an avid reader since 2005 of your print magazine as well as your online site. Now I am moving on to a new startup and I doubt we can justify paying that much for your magazine as much as I would love to and if I had the funds available would not hesitate to take one up for me at home. I loved the online as I got a snapshot of the week. I will be very sad to lose such a tool.
EGR: We do not want to lose you as an avid reader of the magazine and the site. So far this year we have had close to 1m visitors to the site, while the magazine will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year. We are, in my opinion and in the opinion of the majority of the industry, the leading industry publication and do not want to lose loyal readers such as yourself.
Q: I don’t see you getting many people subscribing after using the site for free for so long as most of the info is available elsewhere across the net with a bit of digging.
EGR: A number of high profile publications and B2C and B2B media brands have gone behind the paywall and proved the model has been proven to work. Also, a significant amount of our news is recycled by affiliate portals and other news sites and will no longer be available elsewhere across the internet for free.
Q: You are generating revenue streams elsewhere and because customers like myself attend your shows/networking events. If this is your way of selling more “print subscriptions” then you are forcing the buyer! Is Pageant looking to increase the cost of print advertising once the “reader reach” increases with this measure next year?
EGR: eGR Live, to which I assume you refer, is a free-to-attend event which provided free content and free networking opportunities to registered delegates. The eGR editorial team is highly committed to providing the best content possible on a daily basis, and is adopting the model now used by other leading B2C and B2B media brands in their sector to ensure this continues.
Q: Is it possible to sign up for a free trial to the new website, and try before I buy?
A: Yes, when the new eGR website goes live on 28 September, you will be able to sign up for a free two week trial. This trial will give you full website access, a print and digital version of the latest issue of eGR and the daily snapshot email. You have also the option of extending your trial by another two weeks, but once your trial has expired, you will need to become a paid subscriber to continuing accessing eGR both online and in print.
